DABONG X DG
DaBong (DB) – Finally, I get to meet my creator! I have been looking forward to this. First, tell me about me. How did I happen?
Dhiman Gupta (DG) – (Laughs) Because, I have always admired detectives. So, I concocted you out of all my favourite detectives with the hairdo of my favourite singer.
DB – That sounds more like a genetic experiment. What about my name?
DG – Every Bengali (Bong) is Da (elder brother). So, I reversed the order just like Hergé (RG in French is pronounced Hergé. But his name was Georges Remi i.e. GR.) did and christened you, “DaBong”.
DB – (Sighs) No wonder people compare me to Tintin…
DG – That’s really flattering. I am his biggest fan.
DB – On a different note, I imagined we would look similar! I look very classic with a perfectly round face. But look at you!
DG – (LOL) Anatomically speaking, Bongs usually are a collage of circles. Therefore, I had no other choice…and unless you have forgotten, I have added a reason for it in the latest adventure…rasgullas not only help you think better but are also responsible for the shape of your face.
DB – (Scoffs) Just another comic relief…anyway, do you ever plan getting me published via conventional methods? Talking to real publishers, mailing manuscripts, following up with them, failing so many times…there is an old world charm to it. Don’t you think?
DG – I choose a brave new world.
DB – Or Out Of This World? Anyway, let’s talk about you. Do you create anything else apart from comic books?
DG – I draw, design, write, imagine marketing campaigns, strategise, create content for brands…um..wait there is more…
DB – Okay. Please stop! Let me rephrase the question. What do you do for a living?
DG – I do all of these for a living. I have uploaded quite a few work samples on the Branding and Communications section. Take a look.
DB – Okay. That will be a merry distraction. Thanks for creating me and it’s been a pleasure talking to you.
DG – Pleasure is all mine :)
